During the three days, over 500 kids took part in Fairy Tale
Dilijan Community Center (DCC) organized a New Year party for the children of Dilijan.
On 19, 20 and 21 December, the children watched the interactive New Year show Fairy Tale directed by Vahan Badalyan, the theatre teacher at the Dilijan Community Center studio and also the artistic director of Yerevan’s Small Theatre. Local kids got involved in the preparation for the show that took place in the DCC, which has been working since September 2015.
The children weren’t simply a passive audience, but took part in the show itself as the magical action unfolded in the entire Dilijan Community Center.
“Both me and DCC have an important job in Dilijan, which is to revive the city’s cultural life, creating a new tradition of theatre where each participant of the play and everyone in the city can create their own reality. This is the reason why we chose to put on an interactive performance. We believe that all of Dilijan’s residents can get involved in the creation of a shared pleasure and make life in the city a little kinder. There’s no better celebration for this than New Year, and I’m delighted that, with the kids from Dilijan, we were able to create a little magic for their neighbours”, said Vahan Badalyan.
During the three days, over 500 kids took part in Fairy Tale.
“What we are doing is very important because it’s something new for the people of Dilijan, where the audience can take part and talk to the actors and also take the stage with them, all while the performance is going on. I can sense how the children are surprised when I walk up to them and invite them to take part in the action, how their eyes light up when they understand that they’re not just part of the audience, but actually the creators of the story. For me personally, as an inhabitant of Dilijan, it’s really important to be part of an event that brings happiness to children”, said Tigran Agajanyan (17), the presenter of the New Year performance, after the show.
To create a fairy tale atmosphere, the Armenia Tree Project provided 20 live fir-trees, which will later be planted in Dilijan. The main purpose of the initiative was to show the kids of Dilijan that New Year is a great way to take care of nature. The kids were all presented with some sweet treats prepared at the youth cafe #2 by the young service staff and chefs.
Performances will be held in Dilijan during the holidays on 3, 4 and 5 January. Overall, they expect that more than 700 children will take part in the event.
